Destiny 2: The Witch Queen Won’t Remove Supers – Bungie

Last December, Destiny 2 Director Luke Smith caused a stir when discussing the removal of Supers from the game. Granted, this was part of a larger discussion of light-based supers using the same system as Stasis (with its aspects and fragments), but given that Nova Warp was one of the examples cited, there were concerns about its potential removal. After announcing the light-based subclass overhaul with Void 3.0, Game Director Joe Blackburn and GM Justin Truman confirmed to Playserver that no Supers will be removed.
“For us, it is not currently expected that players will lose anything substantial during the conversion. If you are talking about something like Nova Warp, or if you are talking about something like Spectral Blades, we want to make sure that all of that is there. One of the things that really excites us is when players log in on day one in The witch queen and they’re exploring Void 3.0, that they don’t feel like a bunch of stuff has been taken away from them, ”Blackburn said.
That doesn’t mean there won’t be big changes, however, especially when it comes to new perks and abilities. “Some of our scrums in some of these [existing] trees, and some of our passives weren’t as exciting. Some of them it’s like ‘yeah it’s alright [to lose], ‘we knew it was a weak point in the tree anyway.
It is also possible that some Supers, like the various variations of Arc Staff and Fists of Havoc, will be consolidated with Aspects being the key differentiator. But it looks like gamers will still have access to their different styles. Again, the goal is to make sure that the players don’t lose anything big in the trade. As Blackburn notes. “It’s really important to us, when you log in on day one, that you don’t go like ‘Bungie took a bunch of stuff from me.’ […] This is a huge non-goal for us.

Destiny 2: The Witch Queen will be released on February 22, 2022 for Xbox Series X / S, Xbox One, PS4, PS5, PC, and Google Stadia. While major changes are being made to the light-based subclasses, no new Darkness subclasses will be added in the set (or all of Year 5).
