If things went wrong for you during a mission, chances are you have a Rainbow Six Mining MIA Operator. This happens when an operator dies during a mission. If you want to get the XP they earned and use them again, you’ll need to go ahead and rescue the MIA Operator, and in this guide we’ll tell you everything you need to know about that process.

What are MIA Operators in Rainbow Six Extraction?

A MIA operator is one who died during a mission and failed to exfiltrate. They have been claimed by the parasite, and until you save them, you won’t be able to use them.

If you fail your Rescue Mission, the Operator will again be usable from your roster, but will have significantly reduced health and will not have all the XP he had earned during the mission where he was killed .

How to Rescue MIA Operators in Rainbow Six Extraction

  1. After an Operator dies, go to the “Play” tab and select where they died.

    A red skull icon will be next to the options you need to select to start the rescue mission.

  2. Once you’re in the mission, one of the sub-area objectives will be to rescue an MIA Operator.

    Continue the mission until you reach this sub-area.

  3. When you’re in the sub-area with your MIA Operator, start searching the entire area and look for an Archaean Tree.

    The tree also lets out a telltale ping noise that will get louder the closer you get.

  4. Walk up to the tree and hold X on Xbox (Square on PlayStation) to start rescuing the MIA Operator.

    You will notice that the tree has a number of vine-like sprigs stemming from it, anchoring it at various points around the room. Note these locations.

  5. Pull the center of the anchor points attached to the tree around the room. You’ll also need to shoot the cells that surge down the vines towards the tree as they appear.

    This will prevent the Archaean tree from replenishing its energy, which means you can remove your MIA Operator from the tree faster.

  6. When you dragged the yellow diamond icon to the yellow triangle while interacting with the tree, you released the MIA operator.

    Arrows pointing in a certain direction indicate who wins the standoff between you and the tree. The more anchors and cells you destroy, the weaker the tree becomes and the more arrows you will get in your direction, allowing you to remove the Operator faster.

  7. Head towards the helicopter icon on your HUD to reach an Exfil point.

    Place the MIA Operator in the long tube next to the screen here by pressing and holding X/Square when standing in front of him.

What You Get For Rescue A MIA Operator

Once you successfully rescue an Operator, you will receive the XP they earned from the mission until their death, minus a small chunk for their death.

The rescued Operator will also be available for your next mission, but keep in mind that they may be injured and need treatment. This is done by completing missions with other Operators and performing well. The more XP you earn in a mission, the more your injured Operators will be healed.
