cre: Top 5 most unusual alien conspiracy theories

On Tuesday, i09 published an article titled “10 Tips for Generating Killer Sci-Fi Story Ideas.” The first tip, right at the top, is “Look at the big unanswered questions – like, why haven’t we heard of other intelligent civilizations yet?”
It seems to me that they are inspired by one of the great masters of science fiction out there, because David Brin asks exactly this question in his latest novel EXISTENCE (UK | ANZ).
In his plot, David weaves together a number of possible answers to the “Fermi paradox” – the conundrum of why we haven’t yet heard of extraterrestrial life forms when it’s scientifically likely that they exist. And the resulting story is certainly killer. In fact, it’s pretty damn mind-blowing.
But above all, behind David’s writings lies an extremely rich and deep scientific understanding of the world and the patterns of our progress within it (he is, after all, an astrophysicist and NASA consultant).
However, on the interwebs there are also a host of amusing conspiracy theories about where the aliens are hiding. And some of them are, IMHO, just a bit more unlikely. . . Not that we don’t like to hear about it!
I’ve scoured the internet for these theories, and here’s a rundown of my personal top 5 for your reading pleasure. . .
