LEGO Brawls brings minifig battling to consoles this summer

This all-ages brawler debuted on Apple Arcade
Room for one more Smash Bros.-adjacent slugfest? Bandai Namco will bring LEGO brawls, a “family” brawler, on consoles this summer, including a physical release. While the exact date is up in the air, the fighting game is heading to Nintendo Switch, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S, with pre-orders listing a price tag of $40.
Bandai Namco has released a new trailer to keep us updated.
As the pictures show, LEGO brawls is a platform fighter, and he goes in the direction of a kind of “playful chaos”. Probably the most appealing part is the characters themselves – they’re minifigs. Players can customize their appearance and abilities to stand out from the norm.
“A cactus with an attitude? A rambling janitor ninja who happens to have fighting chickens? A clown who swings masses with a few scores to settle? Sure! Build the ultimate brawler and upgrade it with unlockable content,” the developers summed up.
Up to eight players at a time
LEGO brawls was created by Red Games Co., a family game maker, and publisher Bandai Namco has confirmed that the console versions will have local and online multiplayer. There is support for eight players online and up to eight players offline for Nintendo Switch and Xbox. PlayStation, meanwhile, caps out at four local players.
This may be the first time you hear about this game, as it was for me. That said, it’s another case of the Apple Arcade effect so often. LEGO brawls debuted on iOS platforms via Apple Arcade in 2019, and it’s been updated over 20 times since launch with new levels, modes, and seasonal content sprinkled throughout. Another mobile game turned console, The LEGO Builder’s Journeyrecently had a similar trajectory.
I don’t know where I would rank this premise against Nickelodeon All-Star Brawl or Warner Bros.’ extremely eclectic MultiVersusbut I like the idea of taking on a classic minifig.
